Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing technical difficulties either during the installation process or once your podcasts have been downloaded, please use the following guide to check that everything is set up correctly.

I am having difficulty downloading my podcasts to iTunes. What is the problem?

Ensure that iTunes 7 is installed - this can be downloaded from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

We have prepared a quick help guide on using iTunes to download our podcasts. For more detailed support about using iTunes in general see the Apple Support website - http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/

I have downloaded my subject or section podcast to iTunes and can't find the individual podcasts. What do I do?

In iTunes, click Podcasts (on the left hand side). Just to the left of the name of podcast package, there should be a small grey arrow, click that. Then on the same row, there is a button called "Get All" - try clicking this. All podcasts should now begin downloading.

I've downloaded a podcast but I can't hear or see anything. What could be the problem?

  • After you've downloaded a podcast, it may not play automatically. In order to play an MP4 file you will need iTunes or other MP4 player installed on your computer.
  • Check that your computer's speakers are on and that the volume is turned up. Be sure to check that all cables from your computer to your speakers are plugged in correctly. If you can access your computer's sound card settings, you should also check that the output of both master volume and wave is set to reasonable levels.
  • In order to view the images, you must open the video viewer in iTunes. There are four buttons at the bottom left of the iTunes Main window. The fourth button an inverted triangle - opens / closes the video viewer. Once you have opened the video viewer, you can call up a larger version by clicking on it once.

I am trying to download a podcast but I'm getting an error message. What could be the problem?

The most likely reason is that you don't have a compatible podcatching application installed on your computer. To download iTunes please go to apple.com.

This will depend on the podcasting application that you are using. You should refer to the Help or Trouble Shooting section in your application to trace the source of the error. The download system uses the ITPC protocol - you will need to check that your podcatching software is compatible with this protocol. Because of its dominance in the market the system has been optimised to work with iTunes and may not function with other software applications.

As a last resort, if you are having persistent problems you may want to choose another podcatching application. We strongly recommend that you use iTunes.

I'm clicking to download an episode and it's playing rather than downloading onto my computer. Why is this happening?

The way that you experience MP4 downloads will depend on your setup - e.g. whether you are on a PC or Mac, and which operating system and browser you are using.

In many cases clicking with the left button on the download link or icon will play the file. Clicking with the right button on the link or icon should display a list of options. One of these options is likely to be "Save Target As&" or "Save Link As&". If you select this option (or any similar option containing the word "Save") then you should be able to save the MP4 to your computer.

Can the sound quality of podcasts be improved?

At present we feel that the sound quality of the Revise on the Move podcasts is more than sufficient. Higher quality audio on the web would be expensive. We had to find a balance between audio quality and cost.

Why do podcasts take a very long time to download on my computer?

The speed of a download is dependent on several factors such as your connection speed, the time of day, how busy the internet is, and whether your connection is being shared with others.

If you have a slow connection you might like to try downloading at off peak-times such as late at night or early in the morning.
